Learn how we got here
Recode (formerly CDI, Committee for the Democratization of Information Technology) was founded in 1995 as a pioneering initiative to promote the democratization of access to information technologies for residents of communities in Rio de Janeiro. With the support of companies and volunteers who embraced the cause of digital inclusion, the organization opened the first Computer and Citizenship Schools in various socially vulnerable communities in Rio de Janeiro.
Over time, the organization expanded its scope of action and began to dedicate itself to bringing digital empowerment to individuals in various countries through a network of partner organizations.
It’s been 28 years of constant transformations, during which the organization has always known how to adapt to the external context and changes in society.
Our methodology
Recode develops pedagogical work in communities where people in vulnerable situations live, applying in its own methodology concepts and values strongly based on Paulo Freire’s pedagogy – education for awareness and social transformation. We have a continuous and customized learning methodology that enables the individual to be a “reprogrammer” of their reality.
Our initiatives
We are a non-profit organization that bridges individuals or corporations and high-quality social projects. We strive for social investment to have an effective impact. Our follow-up is personalized: the donor sets the cause of action and the way of relating to the project.
We have the chance to form protagonists of a great transformation. A new consciousness for a new citizenship needs to be fostered. We combine this with the ethical and citizen use of technology, enhancing the possibilities of action and creation for the benefit of a positive impact on the world.
